Lockdown Survival Guide for Pagans

Coronavirus is the word in everyone’s mind at the moment, sliding into every conversation and news outlets… But it has never been simpler to make a difference in this situation: we can help tremendously just by staying at home.

But being in lockdown 24/7 is easier said than done in the frantic world we live in, so here are some ideas for my fellow Pagans to make your stay more entertaining!

Mental Health Comes First

An invisible threat like the COVID-19 can be very frightening and the constant input of information via social media or the news can put our minds in alarm-mode, affecting mental health tremendously: you might feel anxious, helpless or you may start checking for symptoms in yourself or others excessively.

Here are some tips in order to not feel overwhelmed:

  • Stay informed by using trustworthy and reliable sources, such as the WHO website, but limit how much time you spend reading about the topic. Social media and Whatsapp or Telegram groups are a hub for false information and they give us constant reminders about Coronavirus, so try to check them at certain times only, preferably later in the day.
  • Keep your routines, such as a regular sleep schedule, healthy meals and practice meditation, even 10 minutes a day will make a difference. Try to do something creative or learn something new to keep yourself distracted (cooking, writing, drawing…) and don’t forget to treat yourself every now and then!
  • Keep in touch. Your friends and family are an essential source of support, so even if you can’t see them in person, stay connected by using e-mail, phone calls, video calls, text messages… Having someone to talk to can help reducing anxiety and worry.
  • Acknowledge your distress feelings, ignoring them won’t make the situation any better. Once you discover yourself going into the stress spiral, stop for a minute, breath slowly and remember that this situation will pass. Remind yourself and others to keep safe and do a Gratitude Exercise: What 3 things are you grateful for today?

Having a realistic approach based on facts is very important, so stay safe at home and follow the indication of medical experts!

Watch Parties

In order to help with the isolation feeling and to keep ourselves distracted, I’m celebrating weekly watch parties every Sunday at 7 pm GMT (12 pm Pacific time or 2 pm Eastern time). If you want to help me with the movie choices, be sure to follow Time Nomads on Instagram or Facebook, as I will be posting the polls there!

I will be using an app called Kast and you can join directly from your browser, mobile phone or by downloading the program in your computer (click here to download and create your free account). You only need to create a user and I will be posting the links to join the watch party every week. Thanks to its built-in chat, we can comment on the movie in real-time and stay connected!

If you have an account, look for my username and add me: timenomads
